We install and service Vantage lighting
control systems for both new and existing homes.
You may be wondering...what can a lighting
control system provide?
It is sometimes difficult to understand
how anything could be easier than turning on a light,
however, today's lighting is also used as décor
and is often intricately calculated into architectural
plans. Lighting can create drama or atmosphere making
any space more welcoming or practical for a particular
purpose. Lighting can also transform a space in an instant,
for example. the kitchen can suddenly go from a bright
functional area, to a cozy, comfortable place for an impromptu
meal with family.
Consider the way lighting will be used
in your home. Many homes have several zones of lighting
for each room. In the kitchen it is common to have at
least four or five lighting zones. There may be decorative
soffits, under the cabinet task lighting, work surface
lighting projected from the ceiling, walkway lighting
from ceiling mounted fixtures, and a dining light over
a table. If the kitchen is centrally located one may have
multiple ways to enter and exit so switches will be needed
for at least some lighting at each entrance. Soon there
are six, eight, even ten switches to control the kitchen
lights.

Typically, the switches are "ganged"
together in banks two or three switches wide in one or
more locations. Or perhaps if one chooses to spread the
switches around the room making them more convenient,
however this arrangement nessitates doing a lap around
the kitchen when one wants them all "on" (or
more commonly all "off").
To understand the benefits of a Lighting
Control System one needs to think of controlling lights
in a new way. Instead of the standard "one switch"
for "one light" consider instead "one button"
for "one use" of the space.
Of course, a Lighting Control System can
still control individual lights the same as a standard
light switch, but it will also allow one to set up lighting
arrangements for the way the space is used. We call these
arrangements "Scenes". A Scene can include one
light in the house or every light in the house. The Lighting
System also gives you dimming capability for every light.
The possibilities are endless.
Convenience
When leaving the home, a single button by the door will
to turn off all the lights, and turn the porch light on
for a designated period of time. At bedtime, a "Bedtime
Button" by the bed can adjust all lights throughout
your home just way you want them. The Lighting System
can also automatically turn on exterior lights at sunset
everyday to welcome you home.
The system can set a Scene. In our kitchen example, one
might have a Task Scene, a Night Scene and an Entertainment
Scene. The Task Scene will illuminate work surfaces and
walkways while it turns off minor accent lighting which
wouldn't be noticed with the task lighting turned up bright.
The Night Scene might illuminate walkways in a dim glow
for passing through the room, while turning off work surface
and accent lighting. The Entertainment Scene might illuminate
accent lighting and walkways, while work surfaces are
dimmed to the perfect glow for socializing with friends
or family. The settings for each scene are easily changed,
any time one wishes, by simply pressing the button and
holding it for a few seconds.
Security
A single button by your bedside can turn on all the exterior
lights. A driveway sensor can welcome you or your guests
with exterior lighting on arrival. Other outside sensors
will discourage would-be intruders before they even get
close enough to the house to trip the alarm system.
The Lighting System can be integrated with the Security
System so it will respond appropriately in an emergency.
A fire alarm will turn on all the interior lighting so
one can quickly find their way out, and the light on the
front porch and the lamp post at the end of the driveway
can be set to raise and lower repeatedly to draw the attention
of responding emergency personnel so they will be able
to find your home faster.
Aesthetics
In rooms with several lighting zones, walls can become
cluttered with dimmers and switches. A Lighting Control
System can replace multiple dimmers with functional, attractive
keypads, with engraved buttons for easy identification
of each function. Rooms with views of the landscape can
have buttons to activate exterior lighting so one can
enjoy the view at night.
